Georgia’s WIN List is happy to announce the endorsement of Tonya P. Anderson for Senate District 43 in her race to defeat a Republican incumbent and break the super majority Republicans now hold in the Georgia Senate.
The district includes portions of DeKalb, Newton and Rockdale counties. It has a high Democratic Performance Index and had traditionally been represented by a Democrat until former representative Ronald Ramsey was appointed to a judgeship last fall.
Our WIN List board is impressed by Tonya’s previous service to the district as a veteran, two terms as a state representative, three years as mayor of Lithonia and three years as a city council member. She has already knocked on thousands of district doors during the primary contest and has a strong campaign plan for voter outreach during the next two months.
She believes leadership is about finding solutions to the problems families face. During her tenure as mayor, she completed an amphitheater renovation project and installation of a $1.2 million federally funded streetscape improvement plan. She also oversaw the completion of “The Terraces at Parkview,” a housing complex for 94 low and moderate income families.
Tonya’s platform is based on higher paying jobs, stronger schools and safer communities. She supports the Fair Chance at Employment Act, which prohibits the use of credit checks against prospective and current employees and licensing reciprocity for veterans seeking state professional licenses. She advocates increasing teacher pay, expanding access to HOPE scholarships, closing the digital divide and opposes the Opportunity School Districts. She is and advocate for expanding Medicaid.
She retired from the Air Force Reserve after 21 years service and is a tireless advocate for programs which would benefit and improve the lives of veterans. Her advocacy efforts for children have centered on ending human trafficking and support of the Safe Harbor for Exploited Children Fund. She is an ordained minister and co-pastors Stronghold Christian Church East with her husband.
