Valerie2 Georgia’s WIN List is happy to announce an endorsement for Valerie Vie in the July 26 runoff for House District 62 in South Fulton County and portions of Douglas County.

Valerie Vie is a distinguished attorney who has served as president of the Douglas County Bar Association. She began her career as a prosecutor and more recently served as a defense attorney and public defender. She has won racial discrimination cases and Title VII cases against major corporations and has successfully negotiated EEOC claims for protected classes. Having represented Georgia families on a variety of cases in the courtroom, she would be an effective and eloquent advocate concerning issues facing women and their children under the Gold Dome.

She began campaigning for the seat last fall soon after learning incumbent La Dawn Jones, who was a WIN List endorsed incumbent, would not seek re-election. She sent her first mailer to the district before the end of 2015 and has diligently campaigned door-to- door since, reaching 4,000 households and placing more than 500 yard signs.

The WIN board is impressed by Valerie’s commitment to social and economic justice, particularly her belief “women desValerie3erve to be paid the same as men when they do the same work, take the same risks, and make the same contributions.” She is an advocate of Medicaid expansion, in part because of its impact on women: “Because the burden of care often falls on women, I also think that Medicaid expansion, though it is not only a women’s issue, is an issue that will also disproportionately impact women, the principal caregivers in our families.”

In an endorsement letter, Valerie’s law partner Sonya Chachere-Compton wrote, “Valerie is a compassionate and caring womean…I have personally witnessed Valerie go the extra mile for clients who were unable to pay her retainer. I have witnessed Valerie put in the extra hours to ensure clients receive everything to which they are entitled, even when they are willing to settle for less.”

We are confident Valerie will be a strong champion for women and protect choice. She says, “Women are the strongest group of voters, and we have the power to change things, if we have leaders who are committed to the fight. I will be one of those leaders.”
