Peggy Gillen is a 25 year resident of Alpharetta, Georgia. Peggy is the youngest of nine children, was born and raised in Michigan, and is no stranger to hard work and serving her community. She grew up helping out at their family owned restaurant and learned quickly how to identify problems and to attack them head on with solutions. Peggy obtained her degree in Business, Marketing and Economics from the University of Florida.
Peggy built upon her small business upbringing, becoming a small business owner herself. She has thrived working with the nonprofit sector, helping organizations raise much needed funds to accomplish their goals and thus multiplying the good work they are able to execute in the world.
Peggy and her husband, Chip, have two children. They were born and raised in Alpharetta and educated in the public school system. Her son is now navigating the new post college world, and her daughter is about to be a college graduate also.
Peggy’s involvement in politics began when the preventable Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy occurred, and her young daughter inquired about the normalcy of gun violence in schools. Peggy knew the best way to protect her children was to work to protect all children. She became a very active member of Moms Demand Action to work towards passing common sense gun legislation that respects the second amendment, but also keeps communities safer from harm when that right is abused and prevents future preventable tragedy from occurring.
Peggy’s experience with lukewarm legislators, who did little to hide that they weren’t interested in creating solutions, is what led to her running to replace at least one of them by taking their legislative seat. She is championing bringing servant leadership back to the district in which she resides. Peggy believes access to quality affordable healthcare should be the bare minimum for Americans and her work in non profit childhood cancer fundraising has made that need crystal clear. Peggy has never backed down from a fight and she will continue to work tirelessly to create safer communities in all aspects of Georgian’s lives. Peggy Gillen is just the kind of leader you want working for you on the state level. She is focused on creating solutions to problems with all stakeholders in mind and bringing needed resources back to the community in which she lives. Peggy has been an advocate for doing the right thing and taking action all of her life and she is the right person for this job.
