Dar’shun Kendrick was born in Atlanta, GA and raised in South DeKalb County. Both her parents, Ricky and Daisy Kendrick, are life-long DeKalb county residents and have been married over twenty-eight (28) years. She attended DeKalb County public schools and graduated from Towers High School (Decatur, GA) in 2000 at the top of her class. During that time, she interned part-time for then-Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney at her district office in downtown Decatur. After graduation from Towers, she attended Oglethorpe University (North DeKalb) on a partial scholarship and double majored in political science and communications, graduating cum laude in 2004.
While attending Oglethorpe, Dar’shun worked as the Youth Coordinator for Young Democrats of Georgia, served as a Congressional intern for
then-Congresswoman Denise Majette on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and served as a committee intern for the MARTOC (MARTA Oversight Committee) chairman Rep. George Maddox for two (2) years at the State Capitol. Additionally, she was a student leader on campus, being involved in student government all four (4) years and eventually becoming Student Body President her senior year; she also founded the University’s Young Democrats Chapter and was a Resident Assistant for three (3) years where she was awarded “Resident Assistant of the Year” for her commitment to her residents and the University. She also served on the Strategic Planning Committee and Food Committees making residence life better for students, parents and faculty. Dar’shun was involved in numerous campaigns and left a lasting presence on the University’s campus.
Upon graduation from Oglethorpe University, Dar’shun attended the University of Georgia School of Law and obtained her law degree from that university in May of 2007. While at the University of Georgia, School of Law she founded the university’s first Business Law Society which trains and encourages law students in the practice of business transactional law. Additionally she was on the prestigious International and Comparative law journal, serving as an editor her last year. She passed the Georgia bar in November of 2007 and began working as a civil litigator at a small downtown Atlanta law firm. Subsequently, she became the Communications Director for Young Democrats of DeKalb where she currently still serves this position. She now is the owner of Kendrick Law Practice which is based in Lithonia, Georgia and she practices in the area of business law exclusively. She is actively involved in the business community in DeKalb and Rockdale counties. Recently she has been working with Lithonia city council members and local business owners to revitalize the Lithonia Business Association. Additionally she works with the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce to service business owners and speak and local high schools, which she has also recently done for her alma mater Towers High. She is a Member of the DeKalb Chamber, DeKalb Bar Association, Georgia Association of Black Woman Attorneys, and Decatur Business Association. She has been a Member of Divine Faith Ministries International, located in Jonesboro, Georgia, for over eighteen (18) years.
Throughout her life, Dar’shun has shown the commitment to identifying issues and solving them. She has been described by her peers as a “leader” and a “results oriented” person. She has shown a commitment to getting things done and making her environment a better place to live, work and play. Dar’shun doesn’t talk about problems…she solves them. She has two younger brothers who also reside in the 94th District.
