It’s been clear from the beginning that Ralph Hudgens, Republican candidate for Insurance Commissioner, sides with Insurers rather than consumers. At a recent forum for Georgia Health Underwriters, he confirmed his support of insurance companies denying coverage for pre-existing conditions . Ralph Hudgens dares to compare a life-threatening pre-existing medical condition to a house fire.
When asked about mandatory coverage for pre-existing conditions, Hudgens stated, “You come home and your house is on fire and you call your agent and say, you know, I’ve been meaning to call you. I need to increase my coverage by $50,000, it just slipped my mind. The insurance companies will have to insure people with pre-existing conditions, and they’ll have to allow their customers to keep young people on family insurance plans until they’re 26. That’s going to hurt (insurance companies).” [Fox 31, 10/26/10, Albany]
“As Ralph Hudgens is cashing checks from Insurance Executives and enjoying expensive dinners with their lobbyists, real Georgia families are struggling to find insurance for their children born with pre-existing conditions like asthma, spina bifida, and diabetes.
Hudgens carries so much water for the insurance industry that the lobbyists that asked him to run are getting their money’s worth…and then some,” responded Squires.
