Doreen Williams was born and raised in a rural area of California where agriculture was the economic base. Her father was a teacher, her mother a stay-at-home mom. She has four brothers and one sister. Growing up, politics was a common dinner time discussion and she found herself interested at an early age. She helped her parents when they volunteered on campaigns and accompanied her mother to the state capital to lobby for the educational needs of young students.
She and her husband moved to Conyers, Rockdale County in July, 1994. Their five children attended Honey Creek Elementary, Edwards Middle, and Heritage High School. She and her husband are now the proud Grandparents of nine.
She has been active in the Rockdale County Democratic Party and served on the Executive Board from 2006 to 2012 as the Treasurer. In 2009, she was appointed by the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners to serve on the Board of Directors for View Point Health (fka GRN Community Service Board). She currently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer.
She is an educator by profession and earned her Doctor of Education in Curriculum Studies from Georgia Southern University, a Masters of Education in Integrating Technology in the Classroom from Walden University, and a Bachelor of Arts in French from Brigham Young University. She currently teaches 7th grade at Shiloh Middle School in Gwinnett County.
She has held numerous leadership positions in her church, The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including twice as President of the Young Women’s organization for girls 12-18 years old, three times as assistant to the president of the Relief Society, the women’s organization, and once as an assistant to the president of the Primary, the children’s organization.
