Georgia’s WIN List is proud to announce the endorsement of Valarie Wilson for the State School Superintendent of Georgia in the run-off (July 22).
Georgia’s WIN List is endorsing Valarie because of her hands-on leadership in key educational initiatives for Georgia and her extensive managerial expertise. Most importantly, Valarie is committed to preparing Georgia’s children for a global labor market by providing equal opportunities for every child to have a quality education.
As chairman of the board for the City Schools of Decatur, Valarie helped create the successful College Heights Early Learning Center. And as the president of the Georgia Association of School Boards, she helped develop the Vision for Public Education, an educational framework that has begun implementation in over 80% of state school board systems.
In addition, Valarie has a long history in the public service sector, managing large staffs and budgets. As director of the Fulton County Human Services Department, she managed a budget of $26 million and developed programs serving children, youth and the elderly.
Valarie is currently the executive director of the Atlanta Beltline Partnership, Inc., a private non-profit dedicated to raising private funds, creating community outreach and developing educational programs to support America’s largest urban revitalization project.
We believe that Valarie is uniquely qualified for this vitally important task. Her commitment to implementing Common Core and resisting privatization of schools is in keeping with the ideals and principles so highly valued by the Democratic Party. And she has the skills, expertise and a solid record of performance to back up those commitments.
