Georgia’s WIN List is proud to endorse Betsy Holland, an executive at Turner Broadcasting, as one of our “2018 Spring Super Six.” Betsy is running for House District 54, a Buckhead District which has been represented by a Republican since the days when only a handful of Republicans served in the General Assembly.
Following a family move to Marietta when she was in grade school, Betsy attended public schools where she thrived in extracurricular arts programs, leading her to become a lifelong advocate for the arts. She earned degrees in Government and Women’s Studies from Smith College in Northampton, Mass. and returned home to work for Turner Broadcasting upon graduation. In her earliest days at Turner, she developed volunteer and community outreach programs and later also assumed responsibility for philanthropic giving and community partnerships. Today, after 20 years, her responsibilities have expanded to include civic affairs, employee programs, and workplace culture.
Her board service includes the Atlanta Community ToolBank, ToolBank USA, Communities in Schools and Fugees Family, a nonprofit dedicated to the education of refugee children. She’s an ordained deacon and Sunday School teacher at Morningside Presbyterian Church, where she also led a women’s group focused on social justice and community issues. An advocate for economic growth, Betsy served on the board for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and chaired the Creative Economy Committee focused on growing Georgia businesses in fields like production, film, television, and music.
Her platform includes support for adequate and equitable school funding, improved early learning programs, and reduced reliance on standardized testing. She supports building and maintaining a modern infrastructure system, prioritizing innovative solutions to the state’s traffic woes, and funding for development of mass transit solutions. She pledges to fight discriminatory legislation disguised as religious freedom referendums and to support strategic measures which would reduce gun violence and gun-related deaths.
