The Georgia’s WIN List Endorsed Candidate for House District 109 in Henry, Rockdale and Newton counties is Colonel (Retired) Denise Gaines Edmond, who served 30 years in the United States Army and Army Reserves. She hopes to defeat a male Republican incumbent.
The youngest of five children, she and four older brothers grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she developed a strong work ethic and leadership skills inspired by her family’s military service. She received a business degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and began her military career in 1985. Denise earned an MBA from the University of New Orleans and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College.
As she rose through the ranks, her military specialty became personnel issues covering training and leadership development during both domestic and foreign deployments. She served as an Army ROTC professor at Ft. Valley State University where she provided guidance and mentoring support to cadets, officers, and students on sound leadership principles.
In retirement, she has become an advocate for the military in the community and shares her leadership development expertise with local nonprofit organizations. She is an inaugural member of the Henry County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a charter member of the Henry-Clayton Section of the National Council of Negro Women, and member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
As HD 109 Representative, she pledges to work toward an expanded and improved Transportation infrastructure to relieve traffic congestion and match the demands of the district’s recent exponential growth. Having raised her son, Patrick, now a student at her North Carolina alma mater, as a single parent, she promises to support measures to provide affordable Healthcare for lower or middle-income families. She will also support increased Educational funding for quality after-school programs and affordable childcare. Denise is “T.H.E.” Candidate for House 109.
