Georgia’s WIN list is proud to endorse Kim Jackson for State Senator District 41.
Kim, 35, is an Episcopal priest from the rural South and has lived in Georgia for more than a decade. She was reared in a hard-working family who prioritized love of God, family, and country.
Kim’s dad served families as a social worker for more than 30 years. For many years, he worked for Child Protective Services. From him, Kim learned the importance of advocating for the vulnerable and neglected.
Kim’s mom, a retired nurse and Professor of Nursing, served as a community nurse for economically disadvantaged families living with Sickle Cell Disease. From her mom, Kim learned the importance of expanding access to quality early childhood education and health care.
After graduating from Furman University, Kim volunteered as an EMT and led her colleagues at Emory’s Candler School of Theology in advocating for Criminal Justice Reform in Georgia.
Upon receiving her Master of Divinity, Kim commenced her vocation as an Episcopal priest. During ten years of ministry, she served as a college chaplain, a nationally-renowned consultant and preacher, a parish priest, and a social justice advocate.
In 2018, the Georgia House of Representatives commended her for her “tireless efforts on behalf of the disenfranchised, disenchanted, and dispossessed” (GA House Resolution 1188).
Now serving as the Interim Vicar at the Episcopal Church of the Common Ground, Kim has a service on Sunday in the park and advocates on behalf of people who are unhoused.
Kim stands for a cleaner Georgia, a healthier Georgia, and a more-just Georgia. For a cleaner Georgia, Kim is committed to fighting for bills that prioritize clean energy and pollution reduction and for those that fund additional mass transit options for her district.
For a healthier Georgia, Kim supports Medicaid expansion and raising the minimum wage, and opposes any legislation that denies a person’s rights to reproductive freedom.
For a more- just Georgia, Kim supports education reform and will advocate for a school funding formula that helps put equity in school funding. She will also advocate for a comprehensive anti-discrimination bill that protects the rights of all Georgians.
Kim and her spouse, Trina, live on a small hobby farm in Stone Mountain with two Great Pyrenees dogs, goats, bees, ducks, chickens and a cat.
