Beth Moore

SD 7

Georgia WIN List is proud to endorse Representative Beth Moore for Senate District 7, which includes Suwanee, Duluth, and Peachtree Corners. In 2018, Beth was one of Georgia WIN List’s winning candidates who flipped a long-standing Republican seat to a Democratic one.

Beth grew up in her district, having graduated high school from Wesleyan before earning dual undergraduate degrees in Psychology and German from UGA and her law degree from GSU.

As an entertainment attorney and entrepreneur, Beth understands the practical, legal, and financial challenges faced by small business owners, independent contractors, and the “gig economy” workers of her generation, especially when it comes to accessing affordable healthcare. She bases her campaign on the simple idea that we can be socially inclusive and financially responsible, while also making smart investments for Georgia’s future. Below are her thoughts on several important issues:

Education – Beth believes investing in the education of Georgians is a moral imperative. She recognizes the benefits she received when Georgia invested in her early education in public school, her college career at UGA through the HOPE Scholarship, and her law degree from a great public institution, Georgia State University. Beth believes Georgia teachers deserve better, Georgia should be expanding its pre-K program to be universal, not cutting it, and we should be standardized-testing our children less and trusting our teachers more.

Healthcare – Just like education, Beth believes ensuring every Georgians’ right to access affordable healthcare and health insurance is a moral imperative. For nearly a decade, Georgia Republicans have actively fought against the Democrats’ #1 legislative priority to expand Medicaid to lower-income families. We’ve seen firsthand how neglecting the health of any group negatively impacts us all during a viral pandemic. If Georgia expanded Medicaid, we could open up access to affordable healthcare for over 200,000 Georgians, 10% of whom are veterans; repatriate over $3 billion of our own tax dollars that have been sent to Washington, DC; create over 50,000 good-paying health care jobs all across the state; and revitalize the economies of our struggling small towns and rural communities. Beth believes we can and must do better.

Reproductive Rights – Beth is perhaps most well known for her impassioned speech on the floor of the Georgia House in 2019 as she spoke against the dangers of HB 481, the most restrictive anti-choice bill ever passed in Georgia. Fulfilling her commitment to protect reproductive rights, Beth returned to the 2020 legislative session as the lead sponsor of the bill to repeal HB 481, backed by the support of the Georgia House Democratic Caucus. She will continue to be a champion of pro-choice policies and, as a Christian woman, will continue to fight to keep government out the province of where only God and personal responsibility belong.

Environment – Beth learned from an early age, from hiking with her grandfather through her family’s pine tree farm along the Ogeechee River, that Mother Nature, while a powerful force, is an ill-equipped to advocate for herself – yet we depend on her for our survival every day. Beth believes public policy must strike the proper balance between short-term benefits of economic prosperity with the long-term goals of protecting the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the Earth we leave for our children. Beth believes the greatest acts of patriotism our country has ever committed itself to are the preservation of national and state parks; the protection of our beaches, swamps, and wetlands; and holding businesses accountable for their environmental impact. That’s why Beth, as a member of the Energy, Utilities, and Telecommunications committee, has worked tirelessly to promote advancements in solar energy, electric vehicles, and public transportation, in order to mitigate against further environmental damage and dependence on fossil fuels.
