The Georgia’s WIN List Endorsed Candidate for Insurance Commissioner is Cindy Zeldin, who has for more than a decade led the fight for better health care in Georgia, becoming one of the strongest and most visible advocates for expanding Medicaid in Georgia and a new law which holds insurance companies accountable to provide accurate information about doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers.
The Insurance Commissioner oversees and regulates all types of insurance – health, life, auto, and home – within the state and also promotes fire safety. While candidates for Insurance Commissioner rarely make headlines, the choice is a critical one for Georgia families navigating recent changes in the healthcare insurance industry. Cindy has a stellar statewide reputation for leadership and is endorsed by Kathleen Sebelius, the Obama administration’s Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Cindy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Emory University, a Masters in Public Policy from George Washington University and a Masters of Public Health from Emory University. She began her career at Families USA, a national nonprofit and nonpartisan organization dedicated to the achievement of high-quality, affordable health care for all Americans. Last year, bringing her career full circle, Cindy received the prestigious Health Advocate of the Year award from Families USA.
Cindy has served as a Healthcare Division Analyst at the Georgia Department of Audits, as a Senior Program Associate for Health Policy at New America Foundation, and as a Federal Affairs Officer at Demos: An Equal Say & An Equal Chance for All. Before stepping down to run for Insurance Commissioner, she served as Executive Director at Georgians for a Healthy Future where she built the organization into a pre-eminent voice for consumer perspectives on health care policy issues in Georgia.
In 2010, she was named to Georgia Trend’s “40 under 40” and in 2011, Gov. Nathan Deal appointed her to his bipartisan Health insurance Exchange Advisory Committee. She received the Empowerment Award from the League of Women Voters of Georgia in 2014. Many Georgia legislators look to Cindy for her expertise and leadership when it comes to healthcare and insurance policy.
With her professional and advocacy experience, her vast knowledge of the insurance industry and health care policy, and her commitment to protecting Georgia citizens and consumers, Cindy Zeldin is undeniably the best candidate for the office of Insurance Commissioner. She pledges to put all Georgians and their families first, working to make all types of insurance more transparent, affordable, and fair.
