Georgia WIN List enthusiastically endorses Darcy Castro, a polished public relations and non-profit professional, military wife and mother of four, for Senate District 37 with high hopes she will defeat the Republican sponsor of Georgia’s currently enforced six-week abortion ban.
The incumbent has served two terms in the Senate after nine terms in the House. In 2019, while a House member, he was the primary sponsor of HB 481, Georgia’s draconian six-week abortion ban which has resulted in the deaths of women facing pregnancy complications. The southeastern Bartow and northwestern Cobb County district includes parts of Acworth, Allatoona, Cartersville, Emerson, Kennesaw, Lost Mountain, Powder Springs, and Marietta.
Darcy is a devoted community advocate and an Elder at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church. She is a former Mrs. Georgia who tirelessly volunteered with the International Rescue Committee to help Afghan refugee families re-settle in Georgia homes. Her husband retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel and the family moved frequently during his career. “It was not easy, but it gave my family a unique resiliency,” she said.
“I Implore the women of Georgia to vote in your and your children’s best interests. Hold your elected officials accountable and find ways to be more deeply engaged with a government designed to function for the people and by the people,” she said during a recent WIN List press conference to announce endorsements. “I am determined to take Ed Setzler’s job and be a leader for District 37 who actually stands up for the amazing women who make Georgia a wonderful place to call home.”
