The district was specifically gerrymandered/drawn as a “consolation prize” for the current Republican incumbent after she was defeated in 2020 by WIN List endorsed Rep. Shea Roberts. The district stretches from parts of Buckhead north to Sandy Springs, and then further north to Roswell.
Growing up with a father who was a DeKalb County Superior Court judge, Dr. Beth Fuller saw firsthand how law and policy shape people’s lives. After her long-standing consulting contract at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was abruptly terminated – and following yet another tragic school shooting – she realized she could no longer stay on the sidelines.
“I am frustrated by policies which dismiss science, fail to protect children and seniors, and make life harder for families facing rising costs and economic uncertainty,” she said of her decision to qualify for the highly competitive contest which is sure to draw national attention.
“Everyone should have access to affordable health care and in Georgia, we’re falling short. We are one of only ten states which has refused to expand Medicaid to its full potential,” she said during a recent Capitol press conference as WIN List announced primary endorsements. The HD 53 Republican incumbent repeatedly fails to show up for contentious votes and committee hearings, including those on the 6-week abortion ban, Medicaid expansion, and regulations for gun silencers. “District 53 deserves a representative who listens, shows up, and reflects the values of the people she serves,” Dr. Fuller said. “I understand what is at stake for families in District 53 and I am ready to deliver for them in the State House!”
