Elly is the Georgia State Representative for District 53, which includes portions of the City of Atlanta and Fulton County. She currently serves on the Judiciary Committee, the Health and Human Services Committee and the Game, Fish and Parks Committee and is also a member of the Women’s Caucus and the Fulton County Delegation. Elly is an active community leader and a former practicing attorney. Elly and her husband, who is also an attorney, have lived in Atlanta for 27 years and they have three grown children, two daughters and one son. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Florida in 1972 and graduated with a law degree from Florida State University where she served on the Law Review.
Elly is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and The Florida Bar. Elly practiced law with the Atlanta law firm Parker, Hudson & Rainer after she spent a year working in Washington D.C. She also worked as an attorney with the Dade County Attorney in Miami, Florida and as an Assistant Attorney General with the Florida Department of Justice. Before law school Elly worked as an Administrative Review Analyst for the Department of Family Services, and served as an Associate Vice President for Sun Bank.
After her three children were born, Elly left the practice of law to become a full time mother. Like many mothers in the district, Elly stayed active in the community. As a community volunteer, some organizations that she is currently involved in include Roadsafe America, Board of Directors; Trees Atlanta, Development Committee and Fundraising Chairperson; Alzheimer’s Society of Atlanta, Advisory Board; Prevent Child Abuse Georgia, Fundraising and Steering Committee; Emory Urology Department, Prostate Cancer Research Fundraising Committee; Meals on Wheels, volunteer; and Trinity Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, Georgia, Elder, Mission Council member, Justice, Advocacy and Public Policy Committee Chairperson, and a Sunday school teacher for over 10 years.
