Sen. Jen Jordan Brings Fighting Spirit to Attorney General Contest

Senator Jen Jordan has been an eloquent and visionary member of the Georgia Senate since her election in 2017, with a victory which not only flipped a seat but also removed the Republican Senate supermajority. She was endorsed by Georgia WIN List for her 2017 and subsequent campaigns and we are happy to endorse her 2022 bid for Georgia Attorney General.

“Senator Jordan has courageously raised her voice to fight for Georgia families both as an attorney and in the Georgia Senate. We know she will continue to wage the tough battles for all Georgians after she is elected Attorney General,” said Laura Register of Cairo, Chair of the Georgia WIN List Board. “Jen sees the law as a powerful tool for justice and equality and will be an effective and eloquent advocate for voting rights, reproductive freedom and environmental protection.”

Senator Jordan was raised by a single mother in Eastman Georgia and was able to attend college with the assistance of the HOPE scholarship, combined with part-time jobs, Pell grants and student loans. She graduated with honors from Georgia Southern University and magna cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law.

“Jen is an inspiring role model for young people in rural Georgia,” said Ms. Register, who is also the former chair of the Grady County Board of Education. “Electing her statewide sets a marvelous example for what young women and men across this state can accomplish with hard work and discipline. I have long admired Jen’s drive and determination.”

In 2015, Jen brought suit against then Secretary of State Brian Kemp after she uncovered an unprecedented data breach where Kemp’s office unlawfully distributed the personal information of every voter in the state. That breach (known as the “Peach Breach”) affected more than 6.5 million Georgians. Only after she filed suit did then Secretary of State Kemp give the required legal notice to the victims of the breach and offer to provide credit repair insurance.

Senator Jordan gained national attention in 2019 for her impassioned argument against HB 481, Georgia’s so-called “heartbeat bill,” in which she shared her own experiences with pregnancy loss. One of her many concerns about the bill was that other women in similar medical circumstances could be prosecuted if they were suspected of causing their own miscarriages.

Sen Jordan was a member of the inaugural 2010 WIN Leadership Academy program and later served on the WIN List board.

While in law school, she was a member of the Georgia Law Review and of the law school’s award-winning National Moot Court Team. After graduating, Jen served as a federal law clerk to United States District Court Judge Anthony Alaimo. When her clerkship ended, she moved to Atlanta to begin her law practice at the firm of Bondurant, Mixson & Elmore, and soon after, married Lawton Jordan, whose uncle, Hamilton, had served as President Jimmy Carter’s chief of staff. She and Lawton have two teenagers.

For the last 20 years, Sen. Jordan has been actively practicing law, and for the last decade in her own law firm. Consistently recognized as one of the top attorneys in the state, she specializes in complex civil cases. Her work in the courtroom on behalf of Georgia consumers has resulted in multiple successful verdicts and reported appellate decisions, most notably USA Payday Cash Advance Center #1, Inc. v. Evans and Georgia Cash America, Inc. v. Strong, cases where she represented consumers in multiple class action lawsuits against predatory payday lenders. In 2020, Atlanta Magazine published a long profile about Senator Jordan.
