Following the retirement of legendary former Savannah Mayor and recently Rep. Edna Jackson, Georgia WIN List has endorsed Kendra Clark, a social worker, non-profit leader and longtime community activist, for HD 165 in a three-candidate Democratic Primary only contest.

HD 165 has been represented by a Democrat for decades and includes Skidaway, Truman Parkway, Dutch Island, Carver Heights, West Savannah and the Isle of Hope neighborhoods

Political activism has been a part of Kendra’s life since third grade when she wrote her first ever letter to an elected official expressing hopes to save the school’s physical education program. The same year, she ran her first ever campaign to be class representative.Whether it was through Girl Scouts or helping at the library, my childhood was about learning service to your community isn’t just a choice — it’s a responsibility,” she said.

She is a member of the current WIN Leadership Academy class and during her early career worked with foster children, survivors of sexual assault, and individuals returning to the community while on probation or parole.“Working within those systems opened my eyes to a harder truth — our institutions are designed to punish people for being poor, sick, or down on their luck,” she said

A product of public schools and the sister of a teacher, Kendra Clark strongly believes education should be fully funded. “We need to be sure our teachers have the resources they need to teach our students. Too many of them are having to pay for materials out of their own pockets. They are having to drive for UBER once they get off work just to pay the bills. They have classrooms which are way too crowded.” she said. Click on the image above to watch her full video.
