More than 12 Women to Announce Candidacy for State Office in the Wake of HB 481

May 18, 2019 – In the wake of unprecedented attacks on reproductive freedom and rollbacks of reproductive rights, women are stepping up to run for office at the local, state and federal level. Georgia’s WIN List, the state’s only Political Action Committee (PAC) devoted to electing pro-choice Democratic Women, will hold a press conference Monday, May 20 at 9:00 a.m. on the interior South steps of the Georgia Capitol.

Women leaders are stepping up to run for elected office to represent Georgians’ wishes and overturn this draconian, unconstitutional legislation and protect women’s rights. As WIN List-endorsed State Senator Jen Jordan said in her floor speech opposing HB 481, “The women of this state will reclaim their rights – after they have claimed your seats.”

WIN List will soon celebrate a 20 year anniversary and during its 20-year history has helped elect more than 70 women, 44 of whom currently serve in the Georgia General Assembly. Georgia ranks 20th in the nation for the percentage of women in its legislature, leading the south.

WHO: Georgia’s WIN List and 12+ women candidates

WHEN: Monday, May 20 at 9:00 AM

WHERE: South interior stairs of the State Capitol

WHAT: The press conference will feature announcements by a number of women who are ready to announce their intentions to run against Republicans who voted in favor of the abortion ban recently signed by Governor Brian Kemp. A training session for the candidates is planned immediately following.

Please Note: Earlier notices for this event had a later time. This press conference was shifted earlier so as not to conflict with the governor’s planned press conference paying tribute to Military veterans during the week leading up to Memorial Day.
