During this Black Maternal Health Week, it is particularly appropriate to announce the Georgia WIN List endorsement for longtime maternal health advocate and author Timoria McQueen Saba, a candidate for House District 68 in portions of Fayette and Fulton counties.

Timoria became a nationally recognized advocate for better policies around maternal healthcare for women, especially black women, following her own life-threatening pregnancy complications. “The maternal health crisis in Georgia is not new,” she said during a recent press conference announcing WIN List endorsements. “This is a decades old problem which has dehumanized, dismissed, and caused the deaths of thousands of women and children.  We have black women dying three to four times more than white women in pregnancy and childbirth.”

“We will no longer accept this as a norm. We are not going to continue to turn a blind eye to this crisis. We will not let the deaths of these mothers and children be in vain. Not on my watch,” she said of her campaign theme. “I have spent over a decade pushing legislators to do the right thing from the outside. And I believe that Georgians are ready for someone like me to fight for them right here on the inside. I’m ready day one to begin fighting for you!” Click on the image above to hear her full remarks from the press conference.

She notes 30,000 women in Georgia experience post-partum mood and anxiety disorders each year and many find it hard to get help because 82 of Georgia’s 159 counties do not have an OG-GYN. Timoria proposes extending postpartum Medicaid coverage, funding doula services and birth centers,  and increasing access to reproductive resources and education.

The Georgia WIN List network of WINning Women advocates, candidates, legislators, and donors has successfully worked to Change the Face of Power in Georgia politics for 26 years. As we work to elect a record setting number of women in 2026, we must also raise record setting sums.

Please consider a generous gift to support WIN List efforts to elect and re-elect candidates who will be effective advocates for the issues most important to Georgia’s women and families, including preservation of reproductive freedom. Consider your gift an investment in a better future for the next generation of girls and young women you hold dear.
